I went to playgroup this week at the swimming pool. The kids had fun and it was nice to get out of the house....the bad part....there was only three other moms there besides me who were not wearing bikinis....and two of them were pregnant. I would like to use the excuse that I have kids so that is why my body is so gross but this was PLAYGROUP...EVERYONE there was a mom. And, not only were they wearing bikinis, but they looked GOOD in them... It was depressing.
Now I am not saying that I want to necessarily wear a bikini...but just feeling good enough about myself that I dont have to don the fat mom swim skirt would be a good start! Oh well. At least my boobs are real.
Growing up with six girls in our family meant that we learned the importance of looking good at a young age. Now that we are all a little older and a little wiser (and some, a little heavier) we have learned that true beauty comes from the inside-out. So, join us on our journey as we try to make our insides and our outsides a little more beautiful. Hopefully we will learn to love each other and ourselves a little more while becoming a little lighter and a lot more healthy along the way.

Can Zucchini=Fruit Snacks?
I am on this kick of trying to make healthy snacks for my kids but I'm unsure if this next one goes way too far. Check out THIS link for how to make fruit snacks from zucchini, SERIOUSLY! If I ever try it out I'll let you in on the results!

New Baking day recipe
I had some ripe bananas to use so I searched for a new healthy recipe and found THIS. The only change I made to the recipe was to use half whole wheat flour and add a 1/4 cup of applesauce. These Banana Muffins turned out very yummy and don't even need chocolate chips like the Monkey Bars. I made some mini muffins and some regular sized muffins.
Say what you will, but when my five year old eats these I'm counting them as a fruit. These will definitely be on the agenda for the next baking day! Try them, you'll like them!

Baking Day-Take One
Today I attempted my first "Baking Day". Pretty much the idea was to make a whole bunch of healthy snacks and portion them into individual servings. Then I can quickly pop a delicious and nutritious snack out of the freezer for my family to enjoy. Here is what I made:
*Monkey Bars (recipe found here)
*Chocolate Chip Bar Cookies (recipe found here)
*Breakfast in a Cookie (recipe found here)
*Chex Mix (recipe found here)
And here are the results:
Monkey Bars-the kids liked them. I thought the texture was gross and mushy. I'm not sure if I under baked them or maybe it is the mixture of applesauce and bananas but I will defiantly experiment with them again seeing as my kids liked them. I'm hoping with some tweaks I can get it better because it is super healthy.
Chocolate Chip Bar Cookies-these I have made before and we all like them. I'm not gonna lie to you, they are not your Grandma's chocolate chip cookies but....they have whole wheat four and no oil or butter. :)
Breakfast in a Cookie-this was my major flop. I made the full batch (which makes SIXTY cookies) and they were super gross! I think they will be making their way over to my dad's house. Because my kids will tell you, "Grandpa will eat anything!"
Chex Mix-this is my daughters fav so there were no surprises here.
Grand totals:
28 Monkey Bars
24 Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars
60 Breakfast Cookies (honestly I didn't bother to count)
10 individual bags of Chex Mix
(notice how I didn't even bother to clean up the monkey bars smashed on the table by my one year old? Just keepin' it real folks.)
Stay tuned for Baking Day-take two!
*Update: Breakfast in a cookie not as bad as I thought the second day. They seem to get better over time. (Although not good enough to make them again.)

GROSS!
My kids were eating brownies this morning (I know not a great breakfast but I pick my battles people) and I pick up what I think is a brownie crumb and pop it in my mouth. Turns out it was not a brownie after all but a dried up piece of hamburger from last nights dinner! It totally serves me right for mindlessly putting crumbs from my children's food into my mouth. I need some sort of intervention!!!!

Great deal on Kashi
I LOVE Kashi cereal and LOVE it even more when it is cheap. I got these five boxes of cereal for $ .99 each. How did I do it you ask? Well, our Kroger store (Smiths) has Kashi cereal on sale for $1.99 as long as you buy it in groups of four. Then I went HERE to print off a coupon for $1.00 off one box of Kashi Crisp (you can print it twice). I already had a coupon for $3.00 off fruit when you purchase three boxes of Kashi cereal (and since I was already buying fruit, I figured it as $3.00 off three boxes of Kashi). Score!
